Your Old Self is your Biggest Competitor
AI won’t replace you. But it will replace the version of you stuck on repeat.

Jani, a very experienced and long-time travel advisor in my team, was stressed.
She had been watching her commissions flatline for more than 24 months.
Solid income, yes, but stagnant.
And as it happens to all of us, life keeps moving. New expenses, financial surprises, fresh challenges.
We sat down over a cappuccino the other day.
“Jani,” I said, “your biggest competitor isn’t Expedia. It isn’t the advisor down the street.
It’s the older version of you.”
She looked at me, incredulous.
“The Jani who’s still running proposals by hand, sending marketing sporadically, and staying up at midnight juggling details that should’ve been handled by systems.
But there’s another Jani, too. A version of you that’s already moved past all of that.”
Let me explain.

Why Scaling Starts With Letting Go of Yesterday’s Habits
I stirred my cappuccino and leaned in.
“Imagine this,” I said.
You open your laptop on Monday morning. Instead of spending three hours turning rough notes into a proposal, you drop them into a workflow and get back a polished, story-driven draft in minutes.
You send it the same day, not as a list of line items, but as a narrative your clients can picture themselves in.
Your marketing?
It’s not waiting for inspiration to strike. Campaigns go out consistently, with clear messaging that attracts the next wave of dream clients.
Your networking?
It isn’t random coffees and chance encounters. It’s targeted partnerships that bring referrals you don’t have to chase.
And your evenings?
They belong to you again. Because the work that used to bleed into late nights now runs on systems, not sheer willpower.
That’s the new Jani.
But here’s the truth: most advisors never get there.
They stay stuck to their old self, reactive, overworked, and capped by time. Not because they can’t grow, but because they don’t commit to the tools and systems that unlock the next level.
Example in Action
A couple of weeks later, Jani tested her new AI workflow with a couple celebrating their 25th anniversary in Japan. Normally, she would have spent hours polishing supplier notes into something that felt special.
Instead, she ran her outline through ChatGPT and what came back stopped her in her tracks.
Here’s an excerpt from the actual workflow output:
“This anniversary isn’t about seeing Japan. It’s about pausing together in the middle of life to celebrate what you’ve built.
Your journey begins in Tokyo, where the two of you will slip behind the counter of a master sushi chef. He’ll show you how to shape rice and slice fish the way he learned from his father, a quiet, tactile moment you’ll remember long after the taste fades.
From there, the shinkansen carries you to Kyoto, where a temple closes its gates to the public just for you. You’ll walk hand in hand through maple gardens lit only by lanterns, hearing the crunch of leaves under your feet.
On your final evening, a geisha dinner in Gion; not a performance for tourists, but an invitation into a tradition outsiders rarely glimpse. It’s a reminder that true celebration isn’t loud, but intimate, rare, and deeply personal.”
Jani read it twice. Then she smiled.
Because for once, the first draft wasn’t a list of inclusions.
It was a love letter to her clients, written in a voice she’d always wanted to deliver but never had the time to craft.
That’s the difference between the old self… and the new one.
Learn from this investor’s $100m mistake
In 2010, a Grammy-winning artist passed on investing $200K in an emerging real estate disruptor. That stake could be worth $100+ million today.
One year later, another real estate disruptor, Zillow, went public. This time, everyday investors had regrets, missing pre-IPO gains.
Now, a new real estate innovator, Pacaso – founded by a former Zillow exec – is disrupting a $1.3T market. And unlike the others, you can invest in Pacaso as a private company.
Pacaso’s co-ownership model has generated $1B+ in luxury home sales and service fees, earned $110M+ in gross profits to date, and received backing from the same VCs behind Uber, Venmo, and eBay. They even reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.

The Marketing Corner
How Jani got that output
What you just read wasn’t magic. It was the result of a structured AI workflow, one that any advisor can set up.
The key is in how you feed the AI.
If you give it bullet points, it gives you back a brochure.
But if you give it client context and emotional framing, it gives you back a narrative.
Here’s a simplified version of the exact workflow Jani used:
Inputs
Client profile: who they are, why they’re traveling, past experiences, and what matters most.
Destination & dates: where, when, and for how long.
Core inclusions: accommodations, activities, transfers, dining, guides.
Exclusivities: perks, private access, behind-the-scenes.
Tone: warm, expert, story-driven (not a list of line items).
Prompt Snippet (you can paste this into ChatGPT today):
Turn these raw trip notes into a client-facing proposal written as a story.
Anchor the narrative in transformation and exclusivity. Highlight at least three ‘only with us’ moments. Do not present line items. Write in a warm, confident, expert tone that sounds like a trusted advisor.
The difference is clear: instead of proposals that look like spreadsheets, you deliver proposals that read like invitations into an experience.
